Interband Cascade Laser Arrays for Simultaneous and Selective Analysis of C1–C5 Hydrocarbons in Petrochemical Industry

The detection and measurement of hydrocarbons are high interest for a variety applications, example within the oil gas industry from extraction throughout complete refining process, as well environmental monitoring portable safety devices. This paper presents highly sensitive, selective, robust tunable laser analyzer that has capability to analyze several components in sample stream. More specifically, multi-gas system simultaneous C1 iC5 hydrocarbons, using room temperature distributed feedback interband cascade array, emitting 3.3 µm band been realized. It combines all advantages spectroscopy method fast, selective in-line multicomponent analyzer. Capable continuous milliseconds fast C1-iC5 hydrocarbon compositions process stream, requires no consumables (e.g., purging, carrier gas) in-field calibration, enabling low cost ownership was built based on an industrial GasEye series platform deployed first time field at Preem refinery Lysekil, Sweden, autumn 2018. Results campaign comparison with chromatography instrumentation presented.
